Our team showcased its ongoing work in advancing the field of Artificial Intelligence by presenting at the Artificial Unintelligence Conference.
This 24-hour online marathon, held on September 16-17, brought together over 50 leading experts and practitioners. The event is uniquely focused on the “human side of AI,” providing a platform for real people to share their experiences of integrating AI tools into their work and personal lives. This approach goes beyond theoretical discussions to explore the tangible impact and adoption of AI in a rapidly changing world.
The Reality of LLM Development
Vlad Fliahin, MindCraft’s Lead Data Scientist, gave a presentation titled “Building with LLMs: Real-World Projects & Challenges Faced“. His talk offered a rare glimpse into the practical application of Large Language Models, moving beyond theoretical concepts to address the tangible challenges and valuable opportunities encountered during real-world development.
Addressing Key AI Challenges
The presentation focused on two real-world projects, offering insights into practical issues encountered during development.
Project 1: RAG-based Assistants
The first project involved creating custom Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) assistants. This part of the talk outlined the process of implementing a RAG system for both structured and unstructured data. Vlad highlighted the transition from using MongoDB to Neo4j, a move that allowed for the creation of a more effective knowledge graph. A significant challenge addressed was how to properly evaluate these complex systems and the efficiency of the agents used.
Project 2: LLM for Metadata Extraction
The second project showcased the development of an LLM-powered algorithm for metadata extraction. This work aimed to test the capabilities and power of an LLM in a specific information extraction task. The project served as a case study to determine if and how effectively an LLM could be used to automate a precise, data-focused process.
